Flayrah - does it serve a purpose these days?

Granted, there's still a handful of people that submit items to be posted, but that's all that I can see people are doing these days.

There used to be a time when people would comment on those stories on the site, but no more. Instead, all the comments that are posted are now by spam-bots. I've limited what I could do by requiring a particular code be entered when registering (which, I admit, is currently broken), and required that people be logged into the system to post comments.

I've just deleted around 10,000 spam comments. All posted since September 8th, 2006, and nowhere in the comments posted after that time was a real comment.

So basically, I'd like to know. Do people still feel a need for Flayrah to exist, or are other places like WikiFur more apt for news sources these day? If it really is nothing more than a spam-trap, I'll have no problems shutting the service down.
