Goleo VI, the huggable lion may be hogging the limelight as the official mascot of 2006 FIFA World Cup. But a Noida-based company has found an equally lovable animal — the moose — to win the hearts of children.
Tapping the huge World Cup souvenirs market, Hanung Toys India has exported some four lakh pieces of moose toys to Germany in February this year.
Like Goleo, the Moose wears only a T-shirt, representing the flags of 13 different participating countries. ‘‘We were told to use the right colour of the flags in our embroidery and applique works,’’ says Ashok Kumar Bansal, managing director, Hanung Toys.
The toys will be sold at stores belonging to Ikea, the European lifestyle and house furnishing brand.
Besides the toys, Hanung has dispatched another four lakh soft balls to meet the rush of souvenir sales.
Call it pester power, FIFA style.
